Score Q and V 51+

by hoji » Sun Oct 23, 2011 3:22 am
Did anyone get the score higher than Q51 and V51 on the official test, because GMAC's official cite says that max score for the both sections is 60 and heard that one of the experts wrote that one can get max 51 on both Q,V?

From what I understand, you used to be able to go to 60 on the old paper tests and, who knows you may be able to again but not at this time.

I believe that 51 is the top on both sections now.

However, remember that not all 51s are equal. There are actually multiple "interval scores" that each translate to the same "scaled score."

Please read this excellent article by Brian Galvin of Veritas. https://www.beatthegmat.com/mba/2011/10/ ... ngine-work

Good Luck getting those 51's!

On the GMATPrep 1 mock CAT, I got 4 wrong, non consective, all spread out (so 37/41) and it came back with a 46 verbal score, so I highly doubt a 60 is possible.

Hi Sunman,

I too had 4 mistakes on GMATprep1 verbal and received 42 (Qnos 2, 12, 37, 41).
Can you tell me the question numbers that were wrong for you. Just curious to understand the reason for the 4 point difference.

Verbalfight,

In addition to the spacing of the questions, the scaled score depends on the difficulty level of the question you got wrong. This you have no control over, I'm afraid...
Even if you have been performing in the 750+ range and have gotten only 2 questions wrong until question number 36, there's no guarantee that your 37th question will be a 760 level question. This is true with respect to the GMAT (which has to select questions from a limited pool). The GMAT Prep software has an even smaller question bank to choose from. The question picking engine is limited by severe constraints in terms of total number of questions from a particular concept, whether it is CR/RC/SC, not to repeat questions from your previous attempt(only for the prep s/w this one) and many other factors.
Let's say the engine decides to give you the next question on SC Modifiers, but there just aren't any 760 level SC modifiers questions left in the q bank, it will give you a 700 level question. Get this wrong, and it hurts you more than getting a 760 question wrong. Nothing you can do about it.

Best not to overanalyze these things is what I feel.

If there's a gap in my understanding somewhere, please feel free to point out!

Cheers!
