GMAT Prep?? (Wooden rod)

A wooden rod is cut into two pieces. What is the length of the longer piece?

(1) One of the pieces is 20 inches longer than the other piece.
(2) The length of the shorter piece is 1/3 the length of the longer piece.

This question is easy but would like to see the equation setup...

Total length of the rod is not given.

SAY, length of two pieces are x and y inches.

1. Insufficient, it only tells y=x+20. so, the ans may be B,C or E

2. Insufficient, it tells x=1/3y.

now, combining both i get y=y/3+20 => 2y=60; y=30 inch, x=10 inch
