Hi, Can someone help me with this problem?
OG 12 Problem Solving question #123, page 169:
The price of lunch for 15 people was $207.00, including a 15% gratuity for service. What was the average price per person, excluding the gratuity?
My approach was to deduct 15% from $207 and divide the answer by 15. I get $11.73, which is wrong.
The correct answer (from the answer key) is $12, which is from $207 / 1.15 = 180. Then 180 / 15 is $12.
i just want to know why my approach is wrong / why one approach is better than the other.
