Hi There,
I am aiming to get into Columbia, although my background isn't great. Namely, my undergraduate GPA.
So:
GMAT: 710 (Q 85% V 87% AWA5)
Undergraduate: B Economics (finance, econometrics)from Sydney University (top tier in australia)
GPA ~ lets put it this way, I failed every subject bar 1 in my first year. That's 5 Absentee Fails.
That's right, I didn't even rock up to the exams.
Work Experience: after graduating, I worked for a an Investment Bank (top tier) for 4 years, as an
Investment analyst. I then left (took a voluntary redundancy) at the height of the
GFC, as I couldn't handle doing nothing. I travelled, and did nothing for pretty
much a year and a half. Went back to Uni and started a masters of economics (This
time GPA was like 3.8), but never finished as it was to theoretical for me at that
stage. For the last year and a half, I worked as a manager in a Political loby
group. We advise the government on behalf of property developers.) I quit that 4
weeks ago, and while applying for B-schools, will try to get some experience in PE
firms here, as that is what i want to do after B-School.
Now in terrms of my GPA, I'll be honest, I developed a slight drug problem towards the last 2 years of school and the first couple of years of university. This stemmed from some personal issues and not being able to cope. Now it might sound stupid, but having survived that, and finish uni, has made me fairly tough and wise now. Should I be so honest on my application.
Second question, I got 710 in the GMAT, but i left out around 15% of the questions. That is the first time I;ve attempted it, (just 1 week ago), and I know I can go higher. Do I need for than 710??
Oh yeah, Im 29
Thanks
