Kaplan Crash Course - Will someone please reply to this post

Ok! all of these 600 and 700 scores really discourage me. I took the gmat with no preperation and made a 400, but this is not good enough. I need at least a 490, and I retake the test May 28th. Below is a description of a crash course offered by Kaplan. Can I bring my score up 90 points in less than a month? Does anyone think this could really help?

Hi there,

First of all - any prep is better than no prep!!! If the best you can do is squeeze in a cram course, then by all means, do it! At the worst, you'll learn some basic test taking strategies and approaches to some standard question types.

As for how many points you can improve, that's really up to you. I've definitely had students go up 90 points in a month, but that required that they devote a lot of time outside of class working problems on their own. Another thing that will affect your improvement is your math and grammar background - if you have a solid basis in those topics, you can adapt what you know to the GMAT. If you need to work to iron out those fundamental concepts, however, your improvement might not be as drastic.

So yes, the class *could* really help, but it also depends a great deal on you!

As Jim said, any prep is better than no prep - so while a crash course is definitely NOT the optimum way to prepare for the GMAT, if you only have a month, AND you have the time to study, the crash course is the way to go.

Make sure you set aside a lot of out-of-class time to study, though. No prep course can do the work for you. Prep courses are a great source of test info and strategies, but are only complementary to doing a ton of practice on your own.
