Kaplan Premier CD - Day 21

by aznmexicana » Fri Jul 16, 2010 2:47 pm
Does anybody else have a problem with loading the Kaplan CD with Windows 7? I have a Dell Inspiron 1545, Windows 7 laptop. After I installed it, and tried to load it, it says that it needs an "mci driver" to work.

I've tried to google the solution, but it only has solutions for Windows Vista. Does anybody have any suggestions? I've already fallen way behind on studying trying to figure this out.

Thanks in advance.

Hey everyone,

This is an issue I also had in 2009 when I took my test. The Kaplan CD does not work on Windows Vista 64-bit or Windows 7. It doesn't work on a Mac either. The at least partial solution for this is to go online and activate your Kaplan account using the serial code that's on the cover (I think). You should have access to most of the stuff that's on the CD - I'm 100% sure of the CATs, but not the other stuff sadly.

Best of luck!

It runs in safe mode. (Boot up your computer and press F8 over and over while your computer is booting up.)

I couldn't get it to show me what questions I got wrong on CAT1 though, so that made it kind of pointless (apart from just getting a score)... I'm hoping it'll work next time.

Thank you very much for the 'Safe Mode Tip' joannabanana, it worked for me too on windows 7 OS. For DS Practice test 1 I could go back to review each question, lets see how it works out for CATs on CD.

well, I actually encountered the same problem which wasted my valuable day. After myriad of unsuccesfull attempts, I got a solution that works the best for me without rebooting my computer. Rebooting the computer is alot of trouble to me, personally. Here is what I did. Install the CD-ROM anyway and keep the disc in it. Then press start menu, choose my computer, click the system property then choose device manager which left side of the computer. click it. You will see bunch of lists. among them click on sound card. If you double click it, two different sound cards display. Right click each of them to disable individially. Then close all. Now open your Kaplan cd. There wont be trouble. Just make sure to enable the sound card back after you done using kaplan cd.

Haha, wow I could see how that would work, but man what a crazy convoluted way to get a CD to work. Kaplan should just fix the problem! It's yet another strike against them in my books.

I also encountered the same problem since I am using Windows7.
Simple solution to this problem is disabling the sound output devices.
Right click on computer--->go to Properties--->click on device manager---->sound,video and game controllers---->disable sound output devices.
Now run the program. This should help!
