M+W=1400

Also 42% of 1400=588 considered essential

(1) says that 0.36(M)+0.50(W)=588 [ When M+W=1400 then M=1400-W] subsititute this in the equation and get the value of W(Women)

(2) NOT SUFFICIENT because it does not mention anything about that part of people who do not consider it essential
