Jurassic Park, written by Michael Crichton, and which was first printed in 1988, is a novel about a theme park of the future in which dinosaurs roam free.

(A) Jurassic Park, written by Michael Crichton, and which was first printed in 1988,
(B) Jurassic Park, written by Michael Crichton and first printed in 1988,
(C) Jurassic Park, which was written by Michael Crichton, and which was first printed in 1988,
(D) Written by Michael Crichton and first printed in 1988, Jurassic Park
(E) Jurassic Park, which was written by Michael Crichton and first printed in 1988,

OA ==> B
What's wrong in D???

Stuck between B and D. D looks equally good to me. Please help.

Thanks

The only thing I could think of is because in D, it has the modifier and then Jurassic Park. Perhaps by using Modifier, The book Jurassic Park would correct D? Since Jurassic Park is a, albeit fictional, place?

Would like some clarification on this one as well.

B is right that conveys author's intention of showing " written by Michael Crichton and first printed in 1988" as extra information and not a relative clause
(A) Jurassic Park, written by Michael Crichton, and which was first printed in 1988, (B) Jurassic Park, written by Michael Crichton and first printed in 1988, - comma after Crichton results in 2 dependent clauses
(C) Jurassic Park, which was written by Michael Crichton, and which was first printed in 1988, - comma after Crichton results in 2 dependent clauses
(D) Written by Michael Crichton and first printed in 1988, Jurassic Park - shows extra information as main
(E) Jurassic Park, which was written by Michael Crichton and first printed in 1988, - not parallel

Rather D looks a little better to me than D since it keeps the subject (Jurassic Park) further closer to the object.

Would like to hear some more comments, especially from the experts.

Thanks

I don't see any difference between B and D in terms of meaning or grammar.

If the original explanation relies on a preference issue (placement of modifier), then this question sucks!

Btw, what is the source of this question?

Both B and D are grammatically correct options.

The only difference in options B and D is, option B uses the non-essential modifier. It means that author of the sentence is assuming that people already know about the author of the Novel Jurassic Park.

Option D makes the modifier essential.

As option A also uses the non-essential modifier, so B retains the original meaning of the sentence by keeping the modifier non-essential.

B or D could be correct here. The GMAT would NEVER offer a split between these two answer choices. What is the source of this question?
