Use of the Kaplan GMAT Premier

Does the 60-day guide use the Kaplan GMAT Premier that much?
I'm getting up to the verbal part of the guide, and so far I have only been using the Official Guide for GMAT Review for the math, and I see that the start of the verbal section uses that book as well. Why was the Kaplan book required for purchase if we barely use it?

The Kaplan book is used extensively in the 60-Day Study Guide.
As you progress through the upcoming days, you'll use it to learn all of the Verbal content, and you'll take many practice tests (about 15 altogether) on the CD that accompanies the Kaplan book.
