Profile Eval: Am I being realistic?

by bbdesign51 » Sun Sep 25, 2011 9:56 am
Hi There

I appreciate your help/insights as I decide whether to invest the time applying to school. My key issue is - I'm OLD!

I'm interested in Stanford and wondering if my chance is really 0 from the get go, rather than 6%

GMAT: 730
GPA:3.5 @ top 3 undergrad business program
Work experience:
-5 years at fortune 10 company in a finance and strategy leadership program
-1 year starting up an education nonprofit
-currently enrolled at top master's of education program (Harvard)

My career interests are very specific which is why I'm drawn to taking a shot at Stanford, but I'll be 29 @ fall 2012 matriculation. Just wondering if this unrealistic. I'm also open to recommendations for programs that might be better suited for me, or feedback on if my story sounds crazy all together.

Appreciate your help!

Your at the average age limit for so many schools, including stanford. People above 32 will need to show greater accomplishments when applying to business schools. Your having a great profile, and your age wont be even an issue.

Hi,

Thanks for your post. As you already know the mean number of years of experience at Stanford is 4. This does put you above average, but perhaps not completely out of the running. Provided you can put together meaningful and solid essays (as well as convince the adcom that Stanford is the only business school for you), you still may have a shot.

You didn't share what exactly it is that you are interested in pursuing post MBA, so it's a bit difficult for me to suggest other programs that might suit you, but I can suggest both Tuck and Ross strictly based on the fact that they have a higher average number of years experience in their class profiles, thus they tend to be more open to older applicants.

Please feel free to send your resume to us at [email protected] for a detailed(and free) profile evaluation.

Best,

Stacey
