Getting the most scholarship assistance

I am looking at Duke for my first choice and highly considering applying Early Action. However, I was wondering if applying in Round 1 instead of Early Action would improve the financial package Duke would offer.

My reasoning: if I were to apply Early Action then they would provide less academic scholarship since they know I am 100% committed to attend Duke anyways.

Is my logic correct? I feel as though this was the case with Undergrad admissions; it was almost like a competition amongst the schools to provide the highest scholarship until you were committed.

Not necessarily. They still know that you will apply to other schools. And with a 710 will likely get into them. Candidates are willing to sacrifice the 3K if they get into a better school and the Adcom knows that. But you might want to be asking yourself why you would apply to Duke early Action if it wasn't your top choice.

For Duke, its not like they are hedging their seats by providing early action. Supporting the belief suggests that if you really need it(and prove it) they will give you scholarships.

Early action is more for applicants clarity.

It sounds like you should apply to Duke Round 1. That way, you won't have to worry about the scholarship paradox, since they'll still have plenty of money left to give out and won't know that you are 100% committed to going. Your question is an interesting one though.

I have heard that Duke is not very generous in scholarships. Is this info correct?

Also I would like to apply to schools where I can get atleast 40k scholarship. How do I go about selecting the schools.

Gmat -720
GPA - 7.12 ( can't translate to out of 4)
Work ex - 2+ (as on date)
Good leadership examples, good social activities, valuable work experience, Forbes 500 listed employeer, good extra-curriculars in college.
