Using old prep material

Hello all,

Would it be ok if I decided to start my GMAT prep using older prep material? I currently have the 11th version of The Official Guide. I know that there is a 12th version out right now. Thanks in advance.

Starting your prep with the 11th edition would be fine but you should be sure to get the most recent books before you end your studying. The 12th edition actually contains a lot of the 11th edition material but there are some new types of questions. I think it is more important however, to begin your studying by finding out what content is tested on the test and studying that content a little before begining to do questions. Self studying students have the tendency to study questions unique instead of studying for concepts. If you start off studying what concepts are on the test then you have a way to categorize problems once you start to work them.

Thank you Becky. I am fairly new to the GMATs and am still doing a bit of research. I have also come across some individuals who have purchased The Official Guide Verbal and Quantitative reviews along with the overall review book. Do the verbal and quantitative sections contain more information that the overall review book does not cover? Also would you recommend any other brands of review material? Thanks again.
