Doctor applying for MBA

by nirvanaz » Mon Apr 21, 2008 3:55 am
Hi Stacy

I retook my GMAT today with a high fever, and I improved my score from 590 to 680.

Profile:
Age: Male 28
Occupation: Medical doctor graduated from Singapore. 3 years of clinical experience and 1 year in medical business development in Singapore's largest health care institution.

Thinking of INSEAD, top 5 US schools.

Do I need to retake my gmat?

Thanks
KH

Dear KH:

Congratulations on your new score! A 90 point increase is quite an accomplishment. In my experience, you will not significantly increase your score again on subsequent tests so it is probably not worth your time and money. The 680 definitely gets you in the right range of GMAT scores for INSEAD and other top programs.

Good luck!

Hi Stacy

Thanks for your insight.

Based on your experience, being a doctor, does it help / hinder my application? I got a Q45 (77th) & V38(84th) Would this be enough to show the school that I can handle the rigors of the curriculum, esp the quant aspect?

Do you offer admission consulting services?

Thanks
KH

Dear KH:

Like any applicant, you need to make a compelling, rational case for why you want your MBA--how does it make sense for your career path? That will be the main question on the minds of the admissions committees.

Yes, we do offer consulting services. Thank you for asking. You can get details on the services and pricing at our website, www.stacyblackman.com.

Regards,
Lisa
