Hi there!
I would really love it if you could share your thoughts on my profile - I'm currently facing a lot of confusion about which schools to apply for and any kind of feedback will help a lot...
Age: 25
Nationality: Indian
Gender: Female
740 in GMAT - 5.5 AWA
Education: Have an undergrad degree in engineering from a decent college in India. Good acads. In terms of percentage, that means 90+ in most of the exams I've taken.
Work ex: 2 yrs as a software developer designing reports for major telecom operators. Guess I've always had an eye for design
Took up a major career shift after that, following a short term course in entrepreneurship and some soul searching.
8 months as a marketing manager in a small business
3 months - tried to start my own business - dealing with website design and marketing for non-profits, ran into financial difficulties - had to take a job (my present one) to overcome that.
6 months (current job) as an assistant marketing manager in one of the top non-profits for children's education in my country. Surprisingly my business picked up a little steam after I took up my current job, so I basically act as a non-profit consultant for two other non-profits as well. I work a LOT (1 full time and 2 part time), and frankly I'd love to leave my job and concentrate on the independent non-profit consulting - it would be less stressful for sure.
EC: Mostly community work - I mentor a bunch of kids over the weekend and prepare them for leadership. Also active in driving environmental initiatives in my locality. I currently attend a short duration course in psychology and organizational behaviour, and also blog about the same topics.
Short term goals: To work in non-profit consulting in a bigger way. Backup plan would be marketing/brand management as I have experience there.
Long term goals: Setting up my own non-profit consultancy.
Schools I plan to apply to: Darden, Yale, Kenan-Flagler, Johnson
My questions:
1. I don't know if I'm aiming too high with my school selection (or whether I should actually be more ambitious?). Would love some feedback on my profile and the schools which would be a good fit for my kind of profile.
2. After a long stint of 2 yrs in IT, I've stuck to Marketing but in different places (entrepreneurial, for profit, non profit) and that too for only a couple of months at a time. Would that look very sketchy in my resume? I am very sure about applying for an MBA this year, and don't think I can wait for another yr.
Sorry for the long post. Thanks in advance!
