Profile Evaluation

by nikit » Tue Sep 06, 2011 9:12 am
Hi,

I am an IT professional with 4 Years of work experience under my belt. I am currently associated with Dell Services India as a Software Developer.

I was continually scoring over 700 in mock tests until today (Yes, today was the D-Day), but to my disappointment I could manage a score of just 660 (Quant:47/ Verbal: 34) in the GMAT. :(

I seek admission into a 2yr Full Time MBA program at one of the IVY League Universities (US), in 2012 fall. Shall I retake the test????

I would be highly obliged if someone can take a look at my profile and suggest few universities that may take me in.

Here is an overview of my profile:
1. Academics
Undergrad: 7.4 GPA (Absolute Grading)
Senior secondary: 80%
Secondary : 86%

2. Extracurricular:
Owner/Editor of an interactive website
Member of a Music Band (singer and also part time guitarist)
Working for an NGO
Sketching and Painting (Won awards as school and college levels)

3. Leadership Role:
Coordinator of Student Music Club and Cultural Bureau at College level
Lead a team of 5 members at work
Active member - Organizing committee, College Tech and Cultural Fests.

4. International Exposure:
Yes (but just a few months)

Waiting for a reply.

Thanks
Nikit

Hi nikit,

Thanks for posting. I recommend that you take the GMAT test again. Lets look at Chicago Booth as an example. The average GMAT score at Chicago Booth last year was 720, with an 80th percentile range of 660-760. With your score, you would be applying in the bottom 10th percentile. This does not necessarily mean that you would not be accepted, but it is not a preferable place to apply from.

Admissions teams will only focus on your highest score, so I recommend you take the test for a second time.

Hope this was of help.

Cheers,

Conrad and the Stacy Blackman Team

Hey Stacy,

Thanks a lot!! for your reply :)

Just one more quickie. I have a busy and unpredictable work schedule ahead and I won't be able to retake the test for another 1-2 months. If we do not submit applications in the first round of submission, is it that the probability of getting admitted in a better Univ decreases?

Everyone I asked consultation from asked me to apply in the "first" round itself.

Thanks
Nikit

I would recommend retaking the GMAT as well, especially because the average GMAT score for Indian candidates is higher than the score for the general applicant pool.

If your score increases significantly applying in the second round would be better because the difference between first and second round is usually only marginal.

Good luck,
