The significance of the GMAT 80% range

Hi all,

I have just scored 650 in the GMAT (2nd time, 610 the first time) and I am considering my options, i.e. whether I take the test once more or let it rest and focus on the application/essays.

Below are my target schools and GMAT average and GMAT 80% range:

Wharton: 720 650 - 770
Haas: 720 680 - 760
Kellogg: 715 670 - 760
Duke: 700 640 - 750
Tuck: 716 670 - 760
LBS: 700 640 - 750


What are your thoughts? My profile is quite interesting, with healthcate background, robust work experience with continuous progression and two Master degrees (Pharma and Management). Any help would be appreciated

Thanks for your post. It's important to keep in mind just exactly how an adcom views a GMAT score.In addition to the GMAT, your undergrad performance as well as your performance in the two Masters degree programs will also help shape your overall academic profile. However, given the schools you've listed below, I think it's fair to a score of 700 would be considered competitive. If you think of a 700 as a nice/neutral score - anything above it starts to help and anything below it starts to hurt. As with any part of one's profile, if you are lacking in one area you should try to compensate for it in another. Perhaps your strong work experience and two Masters degrees can offset your GMAT score.

At the end of the day you should feel confident in your score. If you think for a moment that you can do better then you might just want to give it one more shot.
