Profile Evaluation - 710 (Q - 49, V - 37)

by ithinkican » Sun Jul 31, 2011 6:16 am
Educational Background:
BE Computer Engineering , Pune University
MS Computer Science, Clemson University

Work Experience Total 8 years
Independent IT Consultant since October 2003,
Provided IT consultancy services to
Top financial firms (Citigroup, Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley)

GMAT: 710 (Q 49, V37)

Extra Curricular...not really rich in this area.

Target Schools: Wharton, MIT, Yale, Duke, Columbia, Darden, Tepper
I still need to do some research on the schools. Harvard was on my list earlier, but with a 710 it looks out of reach.

Experts, can I please get a profile evaluation.

Thanks in advance.

Hi ithinkican,

You have a strong GMAT score and many years of work experience, which are both great. One thing you did not write on and which is important is your leadership experience. Admissions teams are going to be looking for this; it is something that will allow you to differentiate yourself from other applicants.

I recommend that you read this case study of an engineer who was accepted into Columbia, Tuck, and MIT:

I hope this was of help.

Cheers,

Hi Stacy,

Thanks for the reply. I do have leadership experience. I have been a technical lead in my positions since 2006. I have led small teams, mentored interns, led technical initiatives to successfully deliver projects from scratch.

I have been involved with some random social work with small Indian organizations.

Thanks,

Hey ithinkican,
So you DO have some extra currics. I know it may not seem like much to you, but "random social work with small Indian organizations." might turn out to be a lot for the AdCom. Depends on how you present it :).
With a 710 you could reasonably apply everywhere, even Harvard. Even if your chances are thin, if it's your dream you gotta try. As Stacy wrote, leadership experience is KEY, as is differentiating your profile.
