About me: Undergrad GPA: ~3.1 (hard science), Haven't taken GMAT yet. Indian (born in us)
I'm entering my 3rd year in a tier 1 law school (3.3 gpa). I am majoring in Patents and Taxation. I have recently started my own company and I've been working on that for a few months. I also will be doing entrepreneurial work in my 3rd year with lots of technology start-ups as part of my school curriculum for IP Attorneys. Most of the courses I've taken in law school are corporate, tax, or IP/Patent related. I've already learned how to M&A work, Venture startups, corporations, patent applications, basically I know how to handle a business from the legal perspective whether its creation, taxation, IP, contracts etc... This is the role I have in my own business.
I'm interested in venture capitalism, consulting and helping inventors start up companies. I want to apply to business school but I honestly don't want to waste my time if I won't get in to a top school.
I've had a rough time in college thus my low gpa (last year was 3.7). I took some extra courses after so I can qualify for the Patent Bar exam, I've done well in them. I have been diagnosed with a few diseases that I've had to battle with and they greatly affected my ability to perform in college and law school but I've been able to manage them and get passed them. I've done well on the SAT and LSAT (95% and 90% respectively). Do I have a decent shot at a top school? I'm really only interested in Northwestern and Booth because my family lives there and my girlfriend is going to school this fall for her graduate program.
I'm not going to assume I will get a 700+ on the GMAT, I know its a tough exam; even if I get a 700+ will I even be competitive?
I should add that I want to go to business school to be able to learn the business side of running companies. I have learned a lot in law school and I would like to continue down this path; My favorite course was Business Planning, where we took fictitious clients and helped from forming a business entity to advisement on series funding, contract negotiation and the likes. I absolutely love this field and I want to learn everything there is about it!
