Hi all,

I'm trying to figure out ways to strengthen my application. As of right now my application is extremely weak, but I'm hoping by the time I apply to schools, I can have something substantial to show them.

I graduated in 2009 with a BA (Economics, 3.5 GPA), and was only able to find work at a dead end job. I've been trying to find something new, but have been unsuccessful in doing so. Since my work experience is no good, I'm afraid I won't have many opportunities for attending a great school.

I have been studying the GMAT, and on practice scores I'm scoring 700+ now (Best score of 720). I'm hoping by test time I can keep it above that.

Also, as far as extracurriculars go... I have done little to nothing. I come home from work and look for new jobs. Obviously another huge hole in my application, but I am dying to change this so if anyone has any pointers to help with that it'd be a huge help.

As you can see... my resume is really lacking, but I'm hoping since I still have some time to build a solid resume I can get something together. Any pointers would be really helpful.

Thanks!

Best things you can do:
1. Start volunteering - find something you like, that touches your heart and passion. And GIVE! Work hard to try and move to a leadership position
2. Join some sort of social/community/religious club or group either in work and out. And CONTRIBUTE. Give what you can. Organize parties, trips, fund-raisers etc.
3. Lead in work - Take as many opportunities as you can to lead others and train them
4.Achieve in work - even if you are in a dead-end job, do what you can to do your best. And if its really really dead-end obviously try and move if you can

And finally, of course, there's the GMAT, which if you can ace, will help a LOT

Thanks so much for the advice.

I'm constantly searching for a new job, and it's just become overly stressful at this point. Volunteering will be something that can take my mind off it for the time being, so that's a plus.

I'm also a part of a few other extracurriculars that may help out my resume a bit. I'm really just hoping I can a) either find a new job or b) this work experience doesn't drag me too far down.

Thanks again

A really good idea! Also, if you look for volunteer experience in your field, I have seen several cases where this had led to a job.

so, best of luck to you!
