Median series

by sampath » Fri Aug 12, 2011 9:51 pm
Is d ≥ 0?
(1) d is the median of d, 1/d, -d
(2) d^3 is the median of d, d^2, d^3

OA is E but I think the answer should be B as the only value of d that satisfies stmt 2 is d=-1/2 which is less than 0.
IMO:E
from 2)

it should be d d^3 d^2 / d^2 d^3 d

say d=2, 2,8,4 / 4,8,2 (Does not make sense)
say d=-2, -2,-8,4 / 4,-8,-2 (Again, does not make sense)

Statement 2 is satisfied by 1, as well as by numbers 0 > x >= -1
For questions like this, you should always check what happens at the following values:
-2, -1, -1/2, 0, 1/2, 1, 2

In this case, 1 and -1 satisfy both statements, so we can choose E based on that.
