Profile Evaluation for 2012 applicant

by longbyte75 » Mon Aug 08, 2011 3:46 am
Hi
I am planning for FT MBA next year (2012)

Indian/IT/Male
Age: 28
GMAT: 690(Q49, V34) . I was really disappointed with the score. I know I could have scored around 710-730.

Undergraduate:
Bachelor in Engineering, GPA 7.18 (One of the top engineering schools in India)

WE
6 years of work experience in financial IT, including 3 years of International experience (Switzerland)
Leading a project team of 5 members since 1.5 years.

Extra Curricular:
- Lots of event organization within the organization
- Few NGO activities as part of company's CSR initiatives
- Lot of sports plus played & organized cricket competition in Europe
- Avid photographer
- Few Leadership experience from college (Club President)

Target Schools: INSEAD / HEC / IE / IESE / St Gallen

Post MBA
I would like to move into Business Development or Consulting role in Internet/Technology in Europe.

Since I belong to the most competitive applicant pool, do I have a realistic chance at my target schools. Also should I retake my GMAT?

You do belong to the most competitive pool, but with a more well rounded profile. 690 would be slightly below the average, but I would rather focus on the applications at this stage. I have seen people from Financial IT leveraging a lot on their client's brand reputation.

You have a good shot at HEC/IE/St.Gallen.
INSEAD might be a stretch unless you have some good brand names, high profile projects thrown in. The international work exp. will obviously help. IESE is also a great fit for you looking at your goals.

So yes, you do have a realistic chance, and I also like that you have a diversified spectrum of target schools.

Good Luck!

Hi,

INSEAD is the only school in the list you have mentioned which is a little stretch. But still since you have international work ex which INSEAD values you can take a shot.

A lot will depend on how you present your work ex and extra currics in the essays.
