Hi all

After 4 months of preparation , i lost the battle today...scored 650(Q 48, V 32).
I had enrolled for MGMAT and i got either 600 or 640 in all of them...
Had issues with Verbal since beginning...tried hard to improve but got 32 today, highest being 35 in one of the MGMATs.

Its really disheartening. I am broke a bit...but i guess these brickwalls teach you...how badly you want something...

I have taken lot of inputs from this forum and tried to imbibe the same in my practice . I anyway wanted something to write in this forum.....it was my dream ....
i would have loved to write goody goody things if the day had shown me some good score..

I have still a long way to go and though this bull has lost the battle today ...it will keep raging and will fightback....

I hope this doesn't seem misplaced, but the sentiment expressed here is so prevalent in this forum that I'd like to say something about it.

I see a lot of posts where people who scored high (sometimes even in the 720-750 range) post comments about how awful their scores are. Granted, some people are striving for super high scores, and for those people these scores might be unsatisfactory. The problem (as I see it) is that it makes other students feel bad about their own scores or target scores.

The truth of the matter is that your "typical" GMAT-taker is already a very smart person. I know this, because I've been working with them for a long time. So, if your score is in the 50th percentile (530-540), then that is already a great achievement.

Your 650 is in mid 80th percentile - better than over 80% of a whole bunch of smart people!!

I know that this post won't prevent students from complaining about their 650+ scores, and that's fine. I just hope that it will help others realize that lower scores can still be viewed with confidence and pride.

I should also add that it looks like 650 exceeds all of your practice scores. If you don't meet your target score (whatever that is) in any of your practice tests, you really can't expect to exceed it on test day.

My advice is to postpone booking your GMAT test until you can reach your target score on at least 2 practice tests.

Well i completely agree with you. I guess issue is not whether i consider myself smart or not...its all about what i achieve in the end.

I am Indian and 650 score...is just nothing...the number of students taking Gmat here is so high that its tough to make your profile count and when my target is top 25 institutes , i got to get better score.....fortunately i have a good job and i can take my time to prepare again and fightback....

But i definitely understand that for many students...outside India , its a good score....

I should say that I fully recognize that everyone has a different goal with the GMAT. So, I'm not saying that everyone should be pleased with 650. That's definitely not the case. My concern has always been for people who struggle with the GMAT and how they might respond to others lamenting about scores that they would find quite acceptable.

If it makes you feel any better, your score of 650 is well above the Indian average (see attachment).

In case anyone is interested, the GMAC publishes a wide range of statistics related to average scores per country, state, field of study, etc. I have attached the report that covers GMAT stats from 2005 to 2010.
