Please evaluate my profile

by jain_ashu » Thu Apr 03, 2008 4:58 pm
Hello everybody,

I am Ashutosh.I am currently working as software engineer in Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) since last 2 years.Within 6 months of joining I was made Configuration team leader(CTL) whereby my job included system administration and ensuring the integrity of the systems apart from the normal software development work.

My GMAT score on first attempt was 650 and on second attempt was 710. I completed my B.E. with 73.6% marks, the gold medalist had 86%, in 2006.

Since February'08 I have been imparting education to the children living in the slums as a part of my social responsibility. Before that I had been helping people in their education, financially or otherwise, but that was on one to one basis.

I had participated in district level shooting competition in 2007 but was unable to win any medal.

I am targeting Wharton, yale, kellogs and other top schools. Therefore, I would like to know where my profile stands in face of intense competition and what improvement can be made.

I recognize that I am lacking in extra curricular activities so any suggestion is welcome.

Thanks.

Dear Ashutosh:

Based on the limited information provided, you have a couple challenges you will need to overcome for admission to a top 20 MBA program. First, you have limited work experience as most folks have between 4 and 6 years of quality experience. Second, your profile will be the same as a large percentage of the applicant pool so it will be imperative you find a way to positively distinguish yourself. It is not impossible to gain admission to a top 20 program, but you have quite a bit of work you will need to do to increase your chance of admission.

Good luck,
Lisa
