B-school Admission queries

by krishmeda » Wed Jul 13, 2011 11:06 pm
Below is my profile. I like to understand where I stand with respect to admission into one or two of the top 15 B-schools in US.

1) Geography - India
2) Under Grad - B.tech (Electronics) - 7.23/ 10
3) 12th Grade - 91%
4) 10th Grade - 78%

5) Work Exp - 4 years with one of India' largest IT companies (includes 1 year at Client location - Sydney). Over 2 years exp in managing team of 6.
6) Quit job as IT was not a field of my interest and I did not wish to continue any further.

7) Joined a Manufacturing company as Operations Analyst (SCM) for lesser pay than in IT. [Filed of my interest. Have long term plans in manufacturing]
8) Will complete 18 months in Operations at the time of admission (Aug 2012).

9) Career Plan - Post MBA - Work in any of the top consulting/manufacturing companies for an year or two.
- 2 years post MBA - To start my own manufacturing company in India

10) GMAT - 650. (Q 49 and V 30). Plan to give again and targeting 700 or over.

11) Displayed leadership qualities on various instances since childhood. Confident that I can well detail these in the essays.

My preferences for school
1) Well balanced in all teaching methodologies
2) Should have good history of collaboration among students (Closely Knit community among students)
3) Good in General Mgmt,Operations and Entrepreneurship.

I have 2 questions :

1) Which are the US and Non US - schools suggested for my profile with me having FAIR chances of admission (6 US and 4 non US - NOT necessarily in top 15)

2) Considering my reco's are good, what are my chances for the below schools

1) Tuck
2) Kellog
3) MIT
4) Cornell
5) Wharton
6) Berkely

I appreciate advice.

Hello

Looking at class profile of your aimed institute students on their GMAT scored-

Kellogg: 80% Range of GMAT score 640 - 750 with mean score715 MIT Sloan MBA class profile of 2010-11 the Middle 80% GMAT scores ranged from 670 to 770 and the median score was 720.

Similarly at Wharton's MBA class of 2012 the students scored in the range of 650-770 in their GMAT and the median GMAT score being 720. Hence a GMAT score of 700 plus is advisable if you are aiming for top institutes abroad. So if you could improve your gmat score as you hope to it would put you in a safer position gmat wise.

Hi,

Your profile is solid and if you can get a 700 on reattempt we are sure that you can get through top 10 US schools or top 5 European schools.

According to US you should target:
Michigan Ross
MIT Sloan LGO program https://lgo.mit.edu/
Kellogg MMM program https://www.kellogg.northwestern.edu/pro ... ogram.aspx
CMU Tepper
INSEAD
Cranfield ( backup and good for operations/ supply chain)
Harvard

Tuck has very few seats. Haas is good for technology and finance.

Have a look at : https://www.apphelp.co.in/top-operations ... hools.html

Hope this helps.
