What should I study now if I had to take 8 months off?

Hi all. This is a great resource. Thanks! I wish I found it 10 months ago!

I could really use some advice about how to start studying again, mainly how to organize. I was a week away from taking the GMAT last June when a family emergency forced me to stop studying and not take the test. Now I'm trying to get back at studying so I can finally take the GMAT and get it over with! But I'm having a hard time getting organized and getting a sense of what left I should study, without feeling like I have to completely start over. I took a Kaplan class last spring and am missing the discipline! And of course I'm facing the ever-popular question of "how much studying is enough?".

Any advice, other than the great "practice your weaknesses" threads I've seen on here?

Thank you!!!

Take a practice test as soon as you can and see what you've retained and what has slipped away. Also see how far you are from where you'd like to be when you take the real test.

Then, you'll need to assess - you may want to re-take the course or you may want to study on your own, depending upon the above (and, when deciding, think about your own tendency to get stuff done vs. procrastinate - the discipline of a regular class can really help!). Talk to Kaplan about their policy on re-taking the course; a lot of companies will offer a discount.
