Specialization

The advice given to most prospective MBA students is that you should know what you would like to specialize in before pursuing your MBA. What do you think about this statement?

What if initially you don't know, but during the course of your MBA you decide your specialization?

Any thoughts?

Hi ahadi,

It is of great help to know what you are interesting in pursuing post-graduation, as this was allow to you to fully utilize a business school's resource.

This being said, it is also important to be open-minded, and to understand that you will be in a unique situation where you will meet peers of varying backgrounds and industries.

Even more than knowing exactly what you would like to specialize in, it is important to have self-awareness, and to understand what your likes and dislikes are.

Hope this was of help.

Cheers,
