"Rather than" Vs "Instead of" please hel

"Rather than" Vs "Instead of" please hel

Hi,

I often get confused over the usage of "rather than" and "Instead of". Is it that "Instead of" can only be followed by nouns ?

Hi,
I expect experts to chip in and comment on this. I will post my view on this.
rather than is used as conjunction. So, it can be followed by noun, phrase, clause etc
instead of is used as preposition. So, it is followed by noun forms(noun,pronoun,noun phrase).
