Profile Eval - Thanks!

by nikhil08 » Wed Mar 26, 2008 4:38 pm
Hi folks -

Profile is as follows:

Age 39
GPA - 2.8 in Business Administration
GMAT 660 - 42Q, 40V, 5.5 AWA. Took the test once, and WOW - I haven't taken a test in a while...
Work Experience - Strong. Progressive, now VP at Fortune 15 company - manage 100 people and 15mm budget.
Recommendations - Strong.
Essays - Strong (Had some admissions consulting with these.)
Interview - Pretty tough to tell. Interviewer was pretty stoic.
Others - Passed all 4 parts of CPA exam in one sitting.

I have applied to Wharton's EMBA program. My goal is a C level position at the division level in my company.

Thoughts? Other programs more suitable?

Thanks for the assistance!

Dear nikhil08:

It will be interesting to see what Wharton decides on you. The only other programs I might suggest are the EMBA at Columbia, one of the Duke programs that would work with your schedule, or other EMBA programs in a geography that you feel is workable. I think most EMBA programs would be interested in a candidate with your profile.

Best of luck!

Lisa - Thanks so much for your speedy reply!

Can you let me know what might make me less 'interesting' and more admittable (sic) for any future efforts? I know I can't fix my GPA (and goodness knows it feels like it was a go-zillion years ago). I can take the GMAT again, I suppose, although I'd rather hit myself with a hammer.

Thanks again for the advice!

Dear nikhil08:

I think you are pretty admittable now to EMBA programs. EMBA programs evaluate applicants differently than traditional MBA programs, so your work experience and progression in your career path are what count the most. Just make sure you are emphasizing all of your professional accomplishments and leadership potential and you will be fine.

Regards,
Lisa

Lisa -

Thanks again very much. Just as a last question, was your pause with Wharton mostly because it's Wharton? Just looking for anu advice you have. Thanks!

Hi Nikhil! I actually have no pause with Wharton regarding your application. I'm sorry that you interpreted my statement that way. Frankly, I would be surprised if you were not admitted. Admissions is hard to predict and so much depends on the applicant pool in any year, both in terms of quantitiy and quality. Thus you never can predict an admissions decision for anyone to any school with certainty.

Wishing the best for you!
