Difficult CR Question

John was flying from San Francisco to New York with a connecting flight in Chicago on the same airline. Chicago's airport is one of the largest in the world, consisting of several small stand-alone terminals connected by trams, John's plane arrived on time. John was positive he would make his connecting flight thirty min- utes later, because _


Which of the following most logically completes the argument above?
(A) John's airline is known for always being on time
(B) a number of other passengers on John's first flight were also scheduled to take
John's connecting flight
(C) at the airport in Chicago, airlines always fly in and out of the same terminal

Mine doubt is if i think of the connecting flight as a different flight than the one on which John has come then , option C will not look favourable.There is nothing in the argument to assume that the flight is going to be same one. Can someone pls explain this ?

Note: By POE i was able to get the correct answer , but am more looking to have above doubt clarified.

The risk is that John will miss his plane because of the time it takes to transfer to another terminal. However, we are told in the stimulus that his continuing flight is on the same airline.

C. tells us that flights by the same airline always use the same terminal. Therefore John does not need to change terminals and will have enough time to walk to another gate in the same terminal.

This is a relatively common questions type.

This is a "fill - in - the - blank" type of question.

Now this is not actually a question type but it can be any of a number of question types.

The key is to look at the word or words leading up to the blank. In this case the blank is preceded by "because" this is a word that signals a premise so you would be treating this as a strengthen type of question.

As Tani said this is a fairly common type (obviously strengthen is common but so is "fill in the blank." The test makers like to have this type on the GMAT to try to fluster you. Don't let it! Just figure out which type it is - (Strengthen Weaken Inference, etc.

chaitanya.mehrotra - as Tani has indicated the stimulus tells us that the connecting flight is with the same airline and If we add Answer Choice E we also learn that each airline has all of its flights in the same terminal. So it would not be necessary to have the same flight - as long as he is in the same terminal he will likely make his flight.

And do remember that to strengthen is not to guarantee. It is still possible that he might trip and fall on the way to the flight and have to got to the hospital. I mean he could still miss the flight, but choice E makes it much more likely that he would be "positive he will make his connecting flight."
