Prospects for a Stay At Home Mom

by busychick » Fri Jun 03, 2011 12:35 pm
Hi,

As someone who's out of loop both professionally and academically, I could really use some advice.

I graduated from a large public university about two years ago with a degree in Supply Chain Management. I had an almost perfect, 3.98 GPA. I recently took the GMAT and received an unofficial score of 690, still waiting for the AWA scores. I haven't held any full time jobs since graduation. I married shortly after and have been moving around the country for my husband's job. However, I do have some varied and interesting internship experiences (some abroad). I am looking at getting an MBA because I really want more career options that I currently have. Specifically, I'd love to work part time in consulting or something similar. I'm hoping an MBA will help me not only get back in the job market but also help me find part time opportunities.

With this type of profile, do I have any chance of being accepted to a school like U Pitt or CMU?

I would appreciated any feedback. Thanks!

Hi BusyChick,

You sound like a hybrid of two of my recent clients. I think one of the first things you want to do is join a community of non-traditional applicants like yourself where you can continue learning, asking questions, meet other people going through the process, etc. BTG is an awesome place, but you should supplement it with reading blogs and reaching out to your "look-a-likes" who are currently in business school to see how they made it.

You can find them by doing a search. For example, here are the Google Blog results for some key words related to your situation. You can find 2-3 women who are you similar to you, reach out to them, and get their advice. The Google results: https://www.google.com/search?hl=en&ie=U ... 52&bih=511

I'd have to know more about your leadership and internship experiences as well as your goals after business school to weigh in on your chances at any particular school.
