Need Direction -Please help!

by pushkarsikka30 » Mon May 30, 2011 7:36 pm
Hi,
Can someone please evaluate my profile and give me suggestions regarding preparation for GMAT. I have completed second year of engineering and want to start preparation so that I can apply by July 2012.

1. I have two years of part time work experience as a business development executive at a web content development firm. By the time i will apply, I will have three
2. I have four internships
3. I have also done industrial trainings in two companies (Nokia and Ernst and young)
4. College ECA is very good. Been an executive member of many clubs like the debating society and tech clubs. Have been marketing coordinator at college festivals. Have also handled the position of media coordinator and head strategy and planning at college festivals
5. Have worked for three years with interact club (school wing of rotary) and two years with rotaract club (youth wing of rotary)
6. President if a social organization working in the field of helping underprivileged children
7. Have won many business plan competitions and debating events
8 College GPA is 3.4

What should be the target GMAT score to get a chance at top B-schools like Wharton, Stern, Sloan, Harvard and London business school

Can I get in through Harvard 2+2 program?

Please pour in some suggestions as I am very confused and need a direction for the future

Dear pushkarsikka30,

If you want to enter business school directly from your undergraduate engineering studies, then you will need a high GMAT score (720+) along with a high GPA and your current track record of extracurriculars and part-time/intern work experience. Since you will not have any full-time work experience after you receive your bachelor's degree, then you will be viewed as an applicant without work experience. Thus you will need to convey a solid rationale for why you want an MBA and why you want to enter business school without work experience. The HBS 2+2 program could be an option for you, and I encourage you to do some research on it to determine if you feel it is a good match for you. Gaining admission to the schools you note is difficult for any applicant, but the challenge is a bit greater for those without work experience as schools do prefer applicants with full-time, post-bachelor's degree work experience. Should you decide to proceed with applications to enter immediately, be sure to have a strong overall package to give yourself the best chance.

Good luck,
LIsa
