Mechanical Engineer seeking a Top 10 MBA

by kanix » Tue Apr 26, 2011 11:54 am
Hello,

I am a 29 year old mechanical engineer with a MS in engineering from Michigan State University, 3.6 GPA, and undergrad from India. Close to 4 years of work experience in engineering, in design analysis work for a global engine/heavy machinery maker. I scored 620 on GMAT in my first attempt without any prep and will be taking it again in the next 3 months. I would like to apply for the Fall 2012.

Was wondering with someone like my back ground what kind of GMAT score should I be targeting to have a decent shot at a top 10 MBA.

Also which schools can I think of having a decent shot at.

Any suggestions and opinions would be great!

Thanks!

Hi kanix,

Most top 10 business schools like to see a GMAT score of at least a 700. Although this score isn't required, it's a good target to aim for.

For recommendations for business schools, which industries are you looking to enter post-graduation? Is there a certain location you have in mind?

Hope to hear from you.

yeah 700+ gmat score... you want to bring UP the school averages not down to have the BEST shot at having the GMAT be a non-issue for you. if that makes sense.
My goal is to make MBA applicants take onus over their process.

Thank you for your replies. Yes, I will be targeting a 720+ score in my GMATs and I am working on it right now. Will be taking GMAT in the month of August 2011 as I want to have it done before the first week of October.

I want to get into consulting. Location, I would prefer NYC, Boston or Chicago ( where I currently reside ).

Thanks again!
