HAMBURGERS

Expert replies

Guests at a recent party ate a total of fifteen hamburgers. Each guest who was neither a student nor a vegetarian ate exactly one hamburger. No hamburger was eaten by any guest who was a student, a vegetarian, or both. If half of the guests were vegetarians, how many guests attended the party?
(1) The vegetarians attended the party at a rate of 2 students to every 3 non-students, half the rate for non-vegetarians.
(2) 30% of the guests were vegetarian non-students.

OA is A
Hamburger eating chart:
No hamburger was eaten by any guest who was a student, a vegetarian, or both. So we have 3 columns 0 below. The remaining column has 15 because each ate exactly one. Also if we get no of non veg or veg, we can find no of guests.

Column Student non student

Veg 0 0

Non veg 0 15

Stmt 1) We are given the ration between veg student to non student and about non veg student to non student. Since we already know the non veg non student count, we can find non veg student count and double that to get guests.

Sufficient.

Stmt 2) 30% of veg non students does not help us. We have only non veg non student count with us.
Not Sufficient.
Vineesh,
Just telling you what I know and think. I am not the expert. :)

I just searched and found that this problem has been solved a few times before on this forum.

One such post is here.
