A leadership opportunity! should I apply in the 2nd round?

Hi everyone,


Sorry about the unclear title; I didn't get enough space to express my question.
What I really want to ask is I have a leadership opportunity coming up at work.
I was planning to apply in the 1st round but now 2nd round seems reasonable.Should I apply
in the 2nd round instead.

I am aiming for the top 10 schools in the US.

1st round
Pros: less competition?
Cons: I am missing the leadership experience at work
my current boss has only known me for half a year. There might not be much to write in the
recommendation letters.
Less time for preparation. I haven't written the GMAT yet and I have yet the Toffel to beat.

2nd round
Pros: By January, I should have tried this leadership experience. Not a grand wow experience, but
will be leading 3 white collars and 5-6 blue collars.
My boss will have more examples to write about me in the recommendation letter.
More time for me to prepare for the application, including GMAT and Toffel.
Cons: More competition?

So what do you guys think?
