I did not beat it : From 560 to 470

by Thephu » Sun Feb 10, 2008 10:47 pm
Hi

I took GMAT two times, first time in Nov07, Second time in the end of Jan08. I finally end up with lower score. Actually, I am pretty upset and too shy to post my score here. But I just read one thread saying that it would be good to share my experience, even it is not a good one here.

1st
Quan 36
Verbal 31
560 (AWA4.0)

2nd
Quanl 46
Verbal 12
470 (AWA4.5)

My first time, I found that my quan is not so good. So, I attempt a lot to work hard on Math. And I think it would be fine with me if I can maintain the verbal score. So, I did not pay attention on Verbal much. As a result, I got a very bad score in Verbal.

Now I am preparing the next GMAT test, maybe on March, I will work hard on both sections.

any recommend?

Re: VERBAL SCORE DROPPED

mbanobigdeal wrote:The wild swings in scores on your score report that will be sent to the Graduate schools are worrisome, and send troubling signals to the schools. You should make sure that the next time you sit the test, you are fully prepared and not taking chances. (you also have to explain to the grad schools why your scores were all over the place the first two times.)
Here is what you should do.

You should try to maintain your math score at 46 or improve it by a few points to close to 50 while improving your verbal score from 12 to at least 35. That way, you will be looking at a score of better than 670. You can purchase the GMAT Study Guides for 700+ Score published by MLIC company. It is the most thorough set of training materials, especially for your verbal sections. (Their math modules are great too and might help you improve your math score to close to or better than 50.) The discussion of Sentence Correction rules of grammar, logic, and idioms is more comprehensive in MLIC books than in Manhattan GMAT books, which are, frankly, over-rated. The anchor-phrase strategy discussed in Reading Comprehension module of MLIC and the strategies for reading the passage to determine the main idea are unique and give you better insights into the test. Ditto for Critical Reasoning: MLIC's discussion of the qualifier policing strategies will help you get a better handle on how to improve your verbal score from the current VERY low level to a respectable 35 or better. Check out the GMAT Study Guides for 700+ Score by MLIC at https://www.mlicets.org/gmat-studyguides.html Good luck on your next GMAT test.
Wow that site looks shaaaaaaaaaaaady!

OK here is what you need to do. Either buy or download the following:

-Powerscore CR bible
-Manhattan GMAT SC
-OG 11, download OG 10
-Buy kaplan or pr basic GMAT, this is just for an understanding of how CATs work
-Download the 1,000 series, 1000 SC, 1,000 RC, and 1,000 CR.

mbanobigdeal wrote:The list that this guy or gal is recommending is recipe for disaster. The OG11 is full of retired questions and does not give you strategies for dealing with diferent sections. Powerscore is an insult to bible and so are the other shady books this shady character (who is obviously shilling for powerscore) is recommending to you. MLIC materials are the best.. If you want to improve your scores and not take chances, you should get them.
I have 71 posts, you have 4, 2 of which are for this BS program you're spamming for.

Listen: mbaonbigdeal is a joke, a spammer. Get the stuff I recommended, most of it can be downloaded online if you look closely. I have never heard of MLIC and mbaonbigdeal you really should spam less, and work on your graphic design more.

mbanobigdeal certainly looks like someone rooting for MLIC materials and in summary, treat his post above with caution and do your own research.

Official questions are the best source of tuition out there so I would recommend the OG 11. I have also used Kaplan materials and MGMAT CATS and I would recommend both. However, if you're short on time, focus on the OG materials.

Do a search on this forum for recommended strategies and you will see a host of other users (imartially) recommend OG, Kaplan, MGMAT, Powerscore CR, etc...

MLI is a scam. Their website is a joke, and the two of you need to stop spamming on forums and either buy advertising or leave us be.

Also it wouldn't hurt to put in some posts before you two spam. Sad, very sad.

BTW how old are you??? seriously wtf?

"anyone shilling" ?? come on, get a life, better yet, get a job.

LOL-how many times are you going to register under some new alias? Or is it just by some miracle that three new people to BeattheGMAT had 'great results' with MLI?

I would guess a mod will be along soon to clean this POS up. You should look into a real job since you clearly have an MBA with those great MLI enhanced scores.

Thephu- just run a search and keep looking around these forums. You will find the help you need. Please do yourself a favor and ignore the clown's posts on this thread. You just need to find a way to combine that quant and that verbal and you will be looking much better. Not sure what your target score is but I think you will be much more encouraged if you can get a combination of the quant and verbal score you have gotten so far.

My two cents for MLIC.

I have seen their books for both verbal and quant. Let me put it this way, there is NOTHING they forgot to cover in their 1000 pages e-books. It is amazing actually and very detailed. But it is definetly not user-friendly. But in terms of content, MLIC can buy and sell many "respectable" companies in the market.

I checked their website and yes it is as unorganized as their publications but if someone has time and patience, MLIC might be the BEST source for GMAT prep.

Take this from a guy, who loves Manhattan GMAT materials.

Speaking of MGMAT...the new SC BOOK, 3rd Edition...is AMAZING!

I highly recommend it.

No doubting this is likely a legit company...it's the stupidity of veritassucks, premba and mbanobigdeal that is so amusing. If he/she came on here to sell their stuff (which they likely did), they didn't think it through. At one point tonight there are 3 posts by the names above within 10mins of each other and 2 mention moms and basements...coincidence that all the MLIC supporters pop out of the woodwork at once there?! And how can they say OG books are nothing like the test? Last I checked those were retired test questions.

That page is a strain on the eyes...so if their book is organized in the same fashion, that would be tough and frustrating for a GMAT study session. If they have so much info, why not take the little bit of exra time to organize it accordingly? Likely the reason all other prep materials have more support behind them.

I am interested to see the product now (not going to buy it though) that someone with a bit of a reputation has experience with it. Bacali did you really buy something from MLIC?!

This forum is to "amicably" help each other.....and not in a way that you all are employing.

Premba: Please administer restrain in your words :(

by the way.....seems like.......the usernames: Premba, veritasucks & mbanobigdeal.....belong to one person.

Good Luck.
