Spanish graduate

by singhran » Fri Feb 29, 2008 4:05 am
Hi Stacy,

I would like to have some advice.
I have done my graduation in Spanish language and has a total experience of 6 years working in this field.
For the first two years I was working freelance (as a guide , translator and interpreter) and since last 4.5 years I have been working in a reputed MNC. My line of work has changed over years from being Spanish lanaguage expert to a peoples' manager.

I am also Six Sigma Green Belt certified by the company and have good exposure in this field.

I wished to know that a GMAT score of 650 ,with this kind profile, is different or interesting enough for B schools to consider me for admission.
I want to apply late this year.

thanks in advance.
Ranveer

Dear Ranveer:

Your work experience as an interpreter/translator is unique for an applicant from India. I'm not sure what you have been doing for the MNC, but anytime you can demonstrate leadership experience in a professional environment is a great asset to your application. Depending on where you want to apply, you might consider retaking the GMAT. However if the schools you are targeting have average GMATs in the 640-670 range, you might be ok as long as the rest or your application is strong.

Good luck!
Lisa

Hi Lisa,

Thanks for the reply.

I am working with Hewlett Packard India for the last 4.5 years.
I joined as a Spanish Language specialist and went up the management ladder and was a team leader for a team of foreign language specialists.
Now I have totally moved into people management and am an Asst. Manager as of now.

I am looking for admission in one of the top 20 B-schools.

Kindly advise,

Thanks in advance.

Dear Ranveer:

For top 20 programs, you should definitely consider retaking your GMAT to have a more competitive score. You might also look at programs outside of the top 20 that could provide what you are looking for and might value your profile more as they do not receive the same volume of applcations. Please read the sticky on School Selection for resources on where to find information and how to evaluate schools.

Regards,
Lisa
