Stacy/Lisa,
I am an Indian s/w professional with 3 years of experience. My academic performance is -

Graduate 3.1, Computer Engineering
GMAT: 610 (48Q, 26V, 71%)

I appeared for GMAT on 23rd Feb.

College Activites:
Participated as one of the lead role in choreography in college days.

Social Activity:
I along with some of my friends opened a trust to help poor guys for their educational and medical purposes. The trust is still not registered by Indian govt. Still trying to get it registered.
Trying to launch a educational serial [designed to work on human behavior and to help young generation to look into the negative and positive sides of human behavior] in television.

Hobbies:
Writing stories, listening to music, play with computer.

Leadership Experience:
As mentioned above, I took the lead role in choreography in my college days and played a lead role in opening a trust to help poor people. In my professional life, though I worked as a team member, I always played a lead role in design, coding and fixing a problem. And now in my current organization, I am playing a lead role of development team.

Working Experience:
In my previous organization, I took a tool based approach to get a project from its client. I was awarded for that by my previous organization. In my current organization, I developed a new logic to direct the current processing in a new way to help the customer. Again for this, I have been awarded.

Why MBA:
I am little bit concerned about the social activities. I have come from a such a poor family where we did not know how we would arrange our meal for the next day. We had a lot of financial crisis at that time. This poverty and crisis directed me to think on the issues a family or a person generally suffers. This is the reason I would like to do my MBA with finance as major to help people in their living. And why finance? - This is the main problem I have faced from my childhood.
I know, I may sound very awkward but this is really true for me. Stacy/ Lisa, please don't take it in other sense!

GMAT and Business school selection:
I had a very strong feeling for GMAT and for business schools. I wished to do my MBA from good (top) business schools - like LBS, INSEAD, HBS or so on. I also expected my GMAT score above 700 but I failed to get that.

My question:
Is it possible to get admission in those B-schools with such a low score? I also need some financial support for my study because I really don't have any to support my study.
Correct me If I am wrong

Regards,

Amitava

Dear Amitava:

With only three years of experience and a GMAT score below 700, you are facing a large hurdle for admission to the schools you mention. Likewise, the majority of applicants from India tend to have software/computer engineering experience so it iwll be harder for you to distinguish yourself. In addition to retaking the GMAT, you might want to identify other programs that provide the curriculum you seek and have a class profile closer to yours.

With regards to scholarships, once again you will need to distinguish yourself more in your application and the higher a GMAT score, the better your chances of receiving assistance.

Good luck!
Lisa
