Op D and E changes the subject of the sentence from email to superintendent...this creates a confusion and distorts the meaning because in that case the non-underlined portion revealed creates confusion...who revealed??? superintendent...which is wrong...it has to email..

Op C...the use of fullish stop after the underlined portion is wrong as the preceding clause is not a complete sentence.

B/W A and B...In OP A..."first of the charter schools were opened"..this expression is passive and wordy and awkward...while in Op B..." the opening of the first charter school,"...this expression is clear and concise

the use of THAT after year is wrong...i mean instead of that i think when should be used...THAT doesn't seems correct...please justify this point??? and moreover it still remains a passive construction unlike B..

in my opinion usage of "that" in C is correct because "that" refers to the year and by the usage of "that" sentence is meaning in the same year first charter school was opened ...............passive construction in C though i can agree...............please correct me if i am wrong

" that the first charter school was opened" seems more concise than "of the opening of the first charter school"

Guys the OA is C

however i was unable to rule out B...(which i still am..)

source is Kaplan. They have not given any reasonable explanation. As per them- B is awkward...which i fail to understand.

Please PM some expert so that we get some clarity, the issue is Op B seems awkward but in terms of conveying meaning i find it clear and if awkwardness or clarity is the real issue than even Op C which uses a passive construction is suspicious...so need to know what is exactly wrong with the OP B...

Here you need to ask yourself "which year..?" -- the answer is "the year that the first charter..."; the year, which is noun, is described by the "adjectivial phrase in C" which follows it. THIS is not the case in B where "of the opening of the first charter school" is an adverbial phrase (in my opinion). An Adverb (or adverbial phrase) CANNOT describe a noun/pronoun.
