please evaluate my profile

Hi,
In 2009, I graduated out of a decent college here in India with a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering degree at a VERY low GPA ( I think it basically translates into something like 2.5 ), I'm not gonna give excuses for it, I was plain lazy and I hated Engineering. However, my quant abilities and english have always been above average. I was among the top 3 ranks at school and high school. Hence my score of 1400 (800 Q and 600 V) on my GRE and 700 on my GMAT. My toefl Scores are 111. All of these exams were taken casually and I plan on preparing and taking them again. I worked for about 6 months, starting in june 2009 as a CAD (the only course I loved in college) design engineer, joining as a trainee and getting promoted almost instantly when I completed the project that my seniors were banging their heads about. I wasn't being given challenging work, so I quit and with the money I had saved, started a small eco-friendly advertising firm (of which I am currently Managing Director) with a base capital of about $5000. Some of my friends joined in and as of today, 9 months later our company's worth is more that $200,000, with estimations of close to one million in an year or so. We have signed off 12 franchises as of today and more to come, expanding operations to Singapore, Sri Lanka, Malaysia and Sydney in the initial phase. I am also starting an event management company with another partner. It will be handling events like after parties for major cricketing leagues, movie premieres etc.. While doing this, I am also enrolled in a correspondence course, a masters in Business Law degree, due to be completed by may 2012. I am expecting to do pretty well on these examinations as I basically come from a huge family of Lawyers, who will help me through the same. I will be 25 in April 2012. Through all this, I will be getting married 4th of June 2011. Now that you know my story, I am sure you would have got an understanding of my "situation". It has been my dream to study at a top business school and now I need to go to one that allows and recognizes spouses as well. I think it'll help me understand and deal with my businesses better as well. Kindly suggest as to what I could do to get into the top business schools for a course in marketing, finance and entrepreneurship. Thanks a lot in advance.

Dear patanjali,

You have some positives in your profile that will be an asset to your applications. For example, you have competitive GMAT and TOEFL scores, as well as interesting and quality entrepreneurial experience building your advertising firm. Admissions decisions are made on more than a profile, however, so use the essays, recommendations, and interview to strengthen your application and make your case for a seat in the programs you target. It is prudent to apply to a good mix of schools, thus pick a few reach programs and a few reasonable/safety programs for your target list. For tips on identifying programs that might be match for you, please read our sticky on school selection. With regard to your spouse, I'm not sure what you mean by "allows and recognizes" in your post. Schools understand that many students are married and will be bringing spouses with them. If she is planning to apply to these programs as well, you both should disclose that you are applying together on your applications.

Good luck,
Lisa
