I believe the sidebars are the culprit, but the load time on my iPhone has gone down significantly. The website would be stuck for about 10 seconds before its usable.

Sorry that you've experienced a slowdown on the iPhone. We're thinking of making specific version for mobile phones. Can you please let me know whether you primarily read the articles, forums or both on the iPhone?
