Additional MBA and Age

by curlin » Fri Feb 22, 2008 1:41 pm
I have an MBA from Thunderbird School of Global Management but am very disappointed with career prospects as it has failed to open doors to some of the good Management Consulting firms. I have decided to pursue one more MBA focussed on Strategy and Finance from Wharton or Columbia. The drawback is age, I am 38 yrs old male with an Engineering undergraduate and MBA in International Management graduate degree. I need some thoughts on possible roadblocks in terms of age being a major factor to pursue careers in Management Consulting and Investment Banking industries. Kindly enlighten me.

Thanks,
Curlin

Dear Curlin:

You need to check with any school you are targeting as many will not consider your application if you already have a MBA. While it can be disappointing to feel you did not have the right career opportunities coming to campus, it does not mean those careers are impossible for you. It means you will have to conduct your job search with limited assistance from the career center. They should still be able to assist you on a setting a strategy and perhaps some alumni names or contacts in the industries you desire. Ultimately, you need to come up with an action plan and start working towards those goals. It might take longer than you want, but it is possible with the right game plan.

Good luck!
