Handling acceptance and expectation

by nfs1 » Fri Mar 25, 2011 11:32 am
Hello:

I applied for two b-schools for fall'11 as follows -

1. UC Berkeley HAAS EWMBA - R3
2. UC Davis Part time MBA - R2

I received an acceptance from UC Davis and the school gave me till April 15th to accept the offer and send a check of $1500. I have not received any decision from HAAS yet. The application is under process. My first choice is definitely HAAS and I suspect before April 15th I might not get any decision from HAAS.

Please advice me what I can do the best?

Thanks & Regards,
Joydeep

Dear Joydeep,

If you want to attend UC Davis in the event your application is denied at Haas, then you need to pay your deposit by April 15. While no one likes to lose that amount of money, it is your insurance that you will be in an MBA program this fall as if you don't submit your deposit you forfeit your seat. You could ask UC Davis for an extension on paying the deposit until you hear from Haas; however, be prepared for UC Davis to say no as many schools do not grant deposit extensions.

Good luck,
Lisa
