Building Quant Background

by islandgurl918 » Mon Mar 07, 2011 7:46 pm
Hello,

I was thinking about various ways to boost my quant background and here are three strategies that have been suggested to me:

1) Take an online statistics course through the UC (university of ca) extension program
2) Take the MBA Math online course
3) Register and study for the CABM certification

Which of the three do you believe would be the most effective for me to take (1, 2, all three or none)? Not sure how ad coms see these various paths to prove quantitative proficiency

Hi,

Thanks for your post. Building a quant background is a great idea if you don't have courses in your undergrad or have a role/job that require advanced quant skills. However, which course(s) to take greatly depends on just how much quant you are lacking. Most schools like to see classes (accounting, statistics, finance) from a solid university (avoid community colleges). MBA Math is a great program, but if you have the time, taking a course or two from a reputable university is the way to go - by the way, online courses will work!

Regards,

Stacey
