CR and SC is killing me!

by John Faber » Wed Feb 23, 2011 9:08 am
Hello!

I have done four cats so far and I consistently score at the 69% percentile.... I realized that I usually have lots of SC errors followed by a couple of CR errors and only a negligible amount of RC errors. What is the best approach to lower my SC and CR errors? I did all the OG SC questions, from the blue and the orange book, I also just bought the MGMAT SC book, but have not worked through it yet.
In general I don't have a strategy of how to solve SC, CR, nor RC. I feel that I do not need any advise when it comes to RC but as you can tell I really need some advice concerning my SC and CR skills. I am taking the GMAt next week monday so I don't have lots of time studying any grammar. Really I just answer most of the SC questions based on how it sounds, whether it makes sense, wordy or not wordy, concise or not, and whether the tenses are appropriate...
I really need some help here, since I am not a math crack I'd like to brush up my verbal skills. :)

Hey John,

The fastest way to improve SC is to recognize the most commonly-tested errors. A few links to some basic errors:

-https://grockit.com/blog/gmat/2010/10/27 ... ed-errors/

-https://poetsandquants.com/2010/09/16/te ... n-section/

To really knock the socks off SC: https://www.review.de/fileadmin/Manhatta ... -Guide.pdf

There is no shortcut to learning the grammar rules.

For CR, you will need a solid strategy. A few ideas: https://grockit.com/blog/gmat/category/g ... reasoning/

You can see how I model an approach here: https://www.beatthegmat.com/medical-stud ... tml#331691

Good luck to you!
