Need your Suggestion

by Rahul90 » Sat Feb 19, 2011 8:21 am
Hi,

Need a frank and blunt opinion. A little quick too.
I am based in US(original from India) since last 4 years and working full time in IT. Total work exp is around 5 ½ yrs with gpa of 3.6. Scored too bad in gmat just 470. I have gone through the forum and majority opinion is too take the gmat again. Now the scenario is m approaching all the deadlines(dont want to push the mba to next yr) and i don't think i would be able to make much difference in score within month's time. M based on east coast and was planning rutgers, smeal n so on. Which i think due to the score may be out of the question now. But keeping in mind the score n gpa, will appreciate if you can tell me some decent programs on the east coast or any were with a chance of acceptance. Will still apply for Rutgers anyway what are the chances?

Some of the programs i came across are:

1) One year :- LeBow College of Business
2) Zicklin School Of business
3) Fordham Graduate School of Business

Please be frank enough, i know with this score i might not get in at all any were. But please provide some info say if i want to go ahead with these score how good are the chances and which programs.

Thanks

Dear Rahul90,

I think the chances are slim with your current GMAT score. While your GPA does show you are a good student, the GMAT score will raise questions on your aptitude for business school. I would suggest contacting the admissions offices of the 2-3 schools you want to apply to and speak with them directly regarding your profile. It is highly possible they will direct you to retake the GMAT, but it is also possible they might direct you to apply and hold your decision pending a new score. That will allow you to still apply this year while giving you more than a month to prepare for your second GMAT. All of the schools you note are good, solid business school programs. So, I think you should pick the ones you feel are the best match for you and your goals.

Good luck,
Lisa
