Profile Evaluation Please!

by pp8kid » Thu Feb 17, 2011 8:45 pm
Hello!

I would really appreciate a profile evaluation for a 2 year full time MBA.

Nationality : Indian
Undergraduate: Small Private College in the U.S. - Management major
GPA: 2.9 ( Major GPA 3.4)
GMAT: 640
Work Experience: 14 months full time at time of enrollment. -
3 years part time during college
2 summer internships in India (With large MNC's)
Extra Curricular: Club Sports in College. Executive board of student organizations. Volunteer work

I am going to apply to

Reach:

Boston University
Babson

Rest:

Northeastern University
Bentley University
CUNY Barch
Fordham
Pace
Suffolk

Im worried that my lack of work experience and my 2.9 GPA will hurt my chances?

I would appreciate any feedback on my chances!

Thanks!

pp8kid,

I think your are correct to call BU a "reach." Your GMAT is 40 points below their mean, your GPA is a half point below their mean, and BU's average work experience is 5 years, so your odds are not good. Babson may be more doable, since their average GPA and GMAT are in line with (and even lower than) yours. However, their 5-year average work experience may be an obstacle for you.

Northeastern is definitely more likely, however, since its average work experience is only 3 years--they are clearly youth friendly.

You should have no trouble at Bentley and Pace (only 2 years avg. work experience and a 590 / 554 avg. GMATs). Though CUNY Baruch, Fordham, and Suffolk all have avg. work experience of 4-5 years, your GMAT is so much higher than their average that will likely admit you with open arms.

Good luck,
