Hi,

I took the GMAT in Dec 2010 and scored a 680 (Q49,V33) . I am an Indian candidate and plan to retake GMAT in about 3 months time .

The main concern is the Verbal section , though i would want to ideally score a 51 in Quant .

Just to brief , during my GMAT Prep i used Manhattan GMAT SC and various tests as my only source of preparation for the Verbal section

I have a couple of questions and it would be great if one could help me out on those

Q1 .
I plan to sign up for the Veritas Study Material . In addition to that i would surely be signing up for SC Grail and RC99.
What i wanted to know is whether the Veritas Study Material good enough for Verbal and will it help me in my endevaor to touch the 40 mark in Verbal section. From what i read on their website is that they kind of follow some sort of strategies (e.g. SKIMMER ) for SC and CR , and that from the first look looked too much process oriented rather than logic oriented . That was my first thought , though i havent at all looked into what exactly those are and how good and easy to grasp those strategies are.

It would be really great if one could throw some light on this . Also , do suggesr what can i focus on to work on the Verbal part

Q2.
My second question is how to strecth my score from 49 to 51 in Quant . I completed OG and V2 for Quant apart from tests and felt comfortable with Quant . I feel my only concern is my speed rather than the concepts . I would surely be working on that , but any suggestions would be really appreciated.

Thanks & Regards,
Vikas

Since I haven't used Veritas material so I'll let others give their feedback. However, I think what is really important while doing any book is that you should have a systematic way of going through a book ,deriving the learning and then fine tuning them so as to suit your needs. For example, some book may say that you need to do things the X way, try it for sometime, implement it if you find useful ,but if you don't then you may wanna fine tune the strategy or altogether ignore the strategy and use something which will work for you.

Given the fact that you already have a 49 on Quant, I think you should better concentrate on Verbal because there's a greater scope of improvement there. A score of 49 indicates that you shouldn't worry about learning concepts or working on more Quant problems ,rather you should work a bit on your test taking approach such as reducing silly mistakes, controlling stress ,time management etc.
