first time 620...second time 590

Hi everybody. I'm new here and I wanted to share my experience with you. I have an engineering background so maths are usually not such a problem. I worked for 6 years. I'm french and I never lived in an english-speaking country.

When I first passed the test I prepared with kaplan 2008 + premier, OG yellow, green and purple, mba center and princeton review, about 3h/day for 2 months. The day of the test I was very tired and I panicked during quantitative. I really fucked up and I almost cancelled but I gave it a try and scored 620 (Q 43 : V 32).

I decided to retake it 2 months after. I took a month break, then worked really hard for 3 weeks (10h/day). Only GMAT. I ordered the maths manhattan review which I found very good. I was confident as I did 700 on the kaplan simulation 2 days before the test.

On the test I felt confident, I answered to all the questions in time, I really felt that I performed better. And I was shocked to see the result : 590 (Q 42 : V 28 )!!

I m really wondering if this very hardcore work was such a good idea, especially after reading some posts here. Maybe some of you guys went through that before ?

I also wanted to know if by any chance the definitive percentiles can vary. Is there a possibility that some sessions are harder and they adjust the percentile afterwards ?

I was planning to apply to the top european MBAs, so now i dont know if I should retake it or not. I guess if not, my chances are really low with such a score. But what if I score 550 ??

Any help would be very welcome, thanks a lot.

I so much need a glass of wine now.
