I need a freaking 500!!!

So, on my first attempt, without ANY studying and staying out late the night before, I scored a 420 at 8AM. So, with that said, I just need a 500, my math and verbal were pretty horrible. Q27, V21. I need to do better but I absolutely HATE - with a passion standardized tests. Why? Well, I've never been a good test taker (from the standardized perspective). Anyhow, I need a measly 500 to get into the MBA program that my job requires. Any suggestions on what books or study tips? I just bought the "GMAT review" and two "KAPLAN" verbal and math workbooks. C'mon, there has to be a way to score at least 500.

Well you are not alone. I think it is rare to find somebody who enjoys prepping for this test. After all, if you have been out of college for several years, studying for this test can be very annoying. However, if you really want to get into your MBA program and improve your career, you have to change your attitude, take a deep breath and commit to your studies for a few weeks.

I would highly recommend that you pick up the Manhattan GMAT strategy guides. It seems as if you need to brush up on the basics and get comfortable with test taking strategies. If you spend a few weeks diligently studying the MGMAT guides, completing the practice problems from the Official Guide and taking a couple of practice tests, you should get a 500. Make sure you review the answers you get wrong, as well as the ones you get right. Use a notebook and flashcards to track your errors and jot down tricks, traps and formulas. Register for the test and you can download 2 practice exams. I would take one after 2-3 weeks of studying and the second a week or two prior to the actual test date.
