Hey everyone,

I just needed some expert advice regarding applying to the business schools almost at the time of deadline! More specifically, the universities that I want to apply to are University of Toronto and York University Schulich School of Business and their deadlines are April 30 and May 1st respectively. I'm going to be done with everything else that needs to be included in the application i.e. letter of recommendations, essays, resume etc. in a week's time but I want to fully concentrate on my GMAT prep and not rush in writing it if I can avoid it. I'm taking MGMAT's classes and they'll end on Feb 14, 2011 but I want to give it atleast a month of rigorous practice before I write it so just wondering if I write it at the beginning of April, if that would affect my application negatively?

Regards,
Kash.

Hi Kash,

It's hard to give you a really concrete answer on this one - applying earlier is generally always better. However, you definitely need and want to submit the strongest possible application. So, through your self-assessment, if you've determined that this is your ideal timeline, and that it will allow you to both meet the deadlines and put together the best application, then I think it's fine to go ahead with your plan as you've outlined.

Looks like you'll still be submitting with some time before the stated deadline, which is also good.

Good luck!

Julie

Apply when your application is at the best. Having said that, all things equal, apply early. In your case check with the school. if they are not going to start reading the application UNTIL the deadline, you can wait till the deadline. However, if you are all set and in status quo - apply early.
